“An intelligent person solves problems, a wise person avoids them” - AlbertEinstein
Since ancient times, planet Earth has represented a source of life for human beings, providing it with everything it has needed to develop. This is how man has exploited, and continues to do so, the elements provided by the environment, in the last three generations the unconscious and limitless exploitation of both renewable and non-renewable natural resources has manifested itself.
Currently, no one denies the importance of the question of the environment and that its importance in political and economic discussions in all countries is no longer necessary. Today, environmental problems affect most sectors of the life of a country.
Environmental education is a pedagogical, dynamic and changing process, which I like to call education for sustainable development that seeks to awaken in human beings an awareness that allows them to identify with the environmental issue both globally and at the level local. This education is a more than important tool to raise the knowledge, cooperation and duty of citizens in their exchange with the environment, seeking to guarantee the maintenance and quality of the current generations and those who preside over us and identifying the interactions and interdependencies that are they produce between the environment and human beings promoting sustainable development.
The objective of education for sustainable development is to ensure that both people and communities understand the importance of the natural environment and that originated by human beings, the latter result of the interaction of biological, physical-chemical, social, economic and cultural factors, to that they acquire knowledge, values, attitudes and skills; practices that allow them to participate in a responsible and effective manner in the anticipation and resolution of environmental problems.
We can say then that this type of education seeks to achieve a change of focus, playing an important role in the understanding and study of socio-economic problems, encouraging awareness and promoting the development of positive behaviors with respect to their relationship with the environment, exposing the uninterrupted continuity that it links the acts of the present to the consequences of the future.
At present, much of what is said education for sustainable development has nothing of education or environmental. It can only be called green propaganda, due to the trivialization of environmental thoughts in most educational centers.
To find a life in harmony with the environment, what must be done is to have a sensible population belonging to everything that surrounds it. People must be trained from the earliest years to study the necessary care not to waste the planet's resources, to avoid damaging your environment and to live with your neighbor.
Education has to go beyond the simple transmission of thoughts that favor the passive disposition of students. It is necessary to analyze and propose solutions to problems. These can come through the questioning of concepts, the formulation of new conjectures, in addition to the integration and practice of merits.
In December 2018, I published a BOOK on EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT published in the EDITORIAL ACADEMICA ESPAÑOLA https://www.eae-publishing.com/system/covergenerator/build/44707?fbclid=IwAR0L2hWuPZIpOJg4p-Xxe6gVgXlFXBwsaLL42FXLFXBWSLUXLFXLFXBWS1
I invite you to investigate and read it, it is a support book for teachers and teachers of Argentina.
