The G20 and its lies about food and agriculture

“Faced with the dominant agro-industrial model promoted by capitalism and its fiercest representatives, the G20, it is necessary, urgent and possible that the peoples unite to build, from below, relationships that dispute and make possible other models of life and social organization, and another model of production and feeding based on food sovereignty and peasant-based agroecology that serves to satisfy the needs of our peoples and not of capital. "

The focus of the G20 documents is the same as that promoted by the WTO and the Free Trade Agreements: trade liberalization, openness to investment, national treatment for corporations and above all, deepening of this model. Once again the true objectives are covered up: to continue feeding the agribusiness monster, but adorning the speeches with appropriate words to deceive the great majority: "resilience, sustainable way, protect, manage and use water and ecosystems".

The consequences

1- Transform food, agriculture and seeds into mere merchandise.

2- Produce food where it is cheaper to do so, making way for agribusiness corporations with their industrial agricultural systems.

3- An industrial system of production, consumption and trade is imposed that prioritizes economic benefits over the environment with the consequent destruction of ecosystems.

4- Loss of country autonomy and local autonomy and rights over territories, allowing the privatization of all natural assets (seeds, water, land, knowledge).

5- Finally, the expulsion (often through direct violence) of the local peasant and indigenous communities.

For all these reasons, we say once again that in the face of the dominant agro-industrial model promoted by capitalism and its fiercest representatives, the G20, it is necessary, urgent and possible for the peoples to unite to build, from below, relations that dispute and make possible other models of life and social organization, and another model of production and food based on food sovereignty and peasant-based agroecology that serves to satisfy the needs of our peoples and not of capital. For sovereign, free peoples, with healthy soils, healthy plants, healthy animals and healthy food!
