The melamine it is a material for furniture experts but when we are in the process of buying one, we all become experts or at least want to be fully aware of what we are putting into the house. It is an expense, very often not even that small, and therefore it is good to understand if and how to save, or go crazy shopping if it's worth it.
New furniture can often be built in melamine, a material that has no ancient origins but which is increasingly in vogue, it is a new generation material and we find it in all rooms, not necessarily only in the kitchen, because it can also be used for furnishing elements such as tables, wardrobes, sideboards and whatever else.
I am not exaggerating to say that perhaps each of us has a home melamine cabinet without his knowledge.
Melamine or laminate
It is easy to exchange melamine with laminateBoth are not the usual wood, so they risk being confused, let's see why it is wrong to think that one is worth the other.
The laminate is produced via a series of lamination processes, we find it used above all when it comes to covering wooden panels, such as those made of honeycomb, chipboard, or Mdf. There are also times when the laminate has no support panels but these are rare cases. Other type of panels are those in Polycarbonate for the home, but they have very different characteristics.
The melamine on the other hand, while covering the panels made with wood derivatives in the same way, it is first of all different from the laminate thickness, much less. If you then look at how it is obtained, you realize that you need more processes to get it, and you get a material less resistant.
This does not mean that it is considered a solid and durable material, also because nowadays there are always different and avant-garde versions, aesthetically and also operationally better.
The melamine is a material that corresponds to a alternative to build furniture which at one time by default were made of solid wood. It is a relatively new material that is renewed over the years in a continuous aesthetic and substantial revolution. It is the sign of the times we live in today in which everything becomes old even before it becomes fashionable, it is a continuous chase for novelty, even in the field of furniture and design, one of the most "restless" especially in Italy.
Melamine or laminate: characteristics
Let's see what we can expect from the melamine, today produced with industrial and certainly not artisanal processes, considering that it is widely used and therefore it is necessary to use it massive quantities of material.Today it is also found at low cost but be careful that it is not too low because playing too low with the material for the furniture can play tricks.
Among the most important features of the melamine there is its resistance: it lasts a very long time as a material and is difficult to scratch. This is a great certainty for those who do not have an "exhibition" style home but who use it in a normal and daily way, even staining or damaging the melamine it is not easy and this self-preservation makes it a very precious material, even if not expensive. The melamine is resistant to humidity and is not afraid of infiltrations, excellent for furniture that are therefore in the cellar or on the terrace, too, and which could be subjected to environmental conditions that are not really a living room.
Despite being tough, the melamine does not cost much and it is versatile, it can be found in many kinds of homes and even in various rooms, without impacting the general aesthetics of the environment.
In theory the melamine falls into the category of melamine panels, because in fact it is made up of a series of chipboard panels coated in a particular way, in a way that is classic melamine and no other type of panel. When dressing to create a melamine panel a sort of paper impregnated with melamine resin is used, a very thin synthetic material that allows the melamine to have much smaller thicknesses than the laminate.
If we compare this material with wood, we immediately realize that they are two different materials that have different characteristics even for those who find them at home, not just for those who work them. We find the melamine however instead of very thick wood, and it is also good for the trees that are sacrificed to furnish our homes.
There are no conceptual limits to allUse of melamine with which we can produce tables for the living room, bedrooms, bookcases, sideboards and suspended containers but also boxes, shelves and bathroom furnishings!
Melamine to be painted
When using the melamine you can then cover it as you wish, since it is a sort of panel, and here the imagination can be unleashed by giving us the way to create a small work of art in correspondence with what perhaps should have been a common Non-wood panel.
There are no forbidden colors, you can even prefer one texture that sometimes mimics the material that one would have liked to use, first of all real wood, taken with his own veins retracted on the panel to deceive the eyes of the guests and also their own.
When you are for example in the children's room or in a studio, you can really give yourself to art by asking an image professional to customize our panel. You could draw on it without any problems and we would have a designer piece of furniture, unique in the world and resistant, being by melamine.
